Julie’s love for Golden Retrievers started over 25 years ago when she purchased a Golden Retriever named Rhea from a ‘backyard’ breeder. After researching Goldens and English Springer Spaniels, Julie decided on the Golden as her first Sporting Dog. That was to start a love affair of a lifetime.
Julie spent several years competing in obedience with first Rhea UD, than with OTCh Dax UD. Julie learned about the breed’s wonderful qualities of trainability, their drive and their willingness. It was when OTCH Fire UDX came on the scene some 15 years later, that Julie’s desire to breed the multipurpose golden came about. Fire’s first litter produced Julie’s first home bred obedience trial champion, OTCH Shine UDX.
Around this time Julie’s daughter Holly became interested in showing dogs both in the obedience venue and in the conformation venue. When Julie was satisfied that Holly was serious about showing dogs, our first conformation dog was purchased for Holly to show in Juniors and breed. That was our foundation bitch, Wyndy CDX. Not only was Wyndy a beautiful specimen of the breed but she also had the trainability, drive and desire, Julie was looking for to put into her breeding program. Wyndy was shown multiple times in breed, and was also multiple High in Trial in obedience. Beauty and brains all in one package!
Wyndy has produced several outstanding dogs including Elle. Elle lacked one major to finish her breed Championship and was retired due to an emergency spay. Elle had multiple Best of Breeds over Specials to her credit, was a Sporting Group 2 winner, has Show Dog Hall of Fame points, and is an outstanding example of what a Golden Retriever should be.
Our goal is to produce the multipurpose Golden Retriever. A dog that is beautiful to look at, has the desire and trainability to excel in the obedience and agility venues, yet is the perfect canine companion. PrairieWyn Golden Retrievers has litters occasionally. In most cases, we breed to further our own lines. All of our litters are raised in our home. Our world revolves around the puppies in our household. They are socialized to noise, people and different environments. We perform an intensive socialization process from the beginning to help insure our owners of a confident, and well adjusted puppy. Dew claws are removed at 3 days old, the puppies are wormed and given the appropriate vaccinations before leaving our premises.
We proudly breed to the 'American' Golden Retriever Standard.
